Gary Race is a person in long-term recovery with a background working not only in the recovery field, but in the community as a whole. His career began in the recovery field at the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas. He has since worked at other non-profits, including New Beginnings and the Reno County Health Department. Gary has been with United Way of Reno County since September 2025, working on the Early Childhood Block Grant side of Reno Connections, where he helps families connect to community resources that best fit their needs. He also serves as Chairman of the Board for the Reno County Drug Free Alliance and sits on additional boards, including Leadership Reno County and the Health Department Advisory Board. Grounded in lived experience and driven by service, Gary remains deeply connected to the recovery community—and when he’s not working to strengthen systems and support families, you’ll likely find him at a recovery event or enjoying good food and live music!
