HUTCHINSON, KS — In response to the rising need for food assistance as SNAP benefits remain delayed during the federal government shutdown, United Way of Reno County has launched a rapid-response food drive among its workplace campaign partners. Collections will run now through Friday, November 7, with United Way—supported by the City of Hutchinson—coordinating pick-up of donated items on Friday.
This effort was sparked after more than a dozen community organizations met earlier this week at United Way to discuss the immediate needs facing local families and the increased strain on the Reno County Food Bank.
“Our partners asked how they could help right now and this food drive is a fast, meaningful way to respond to the increased demand the Reno County Food Bank is experiencing,” said United Way of Reno County CEO Lacey Mills.
Workplace partners are encouraged to collect canned meats, vegetables, soups, cereal, pancake mix, and other pantry staples throughout the week. United Way staff and the City of Hutchinson will pick up donations on Friday and deliver them directly to the Food Bank.
